Final Major Project Magazine Online Now!
Hookay, so I’ve totally failed at blogging regularly during this project (producing a magazine by myself is Definitely a full time job!)
After many a change, getting feedback from peers & potential readers, & changing it a million times again, the final version is available online now on Issuu
It will be available to buy on Magcloud soon enough, once I receive my proof copy in the...

Alt Style Roll Call!
For my final major project at university I’m creating a women’s rock/metal music & fashion magazine called Rebelicious. I’m looking for anyone and everyone that has any distinguishing (unique & original!) tattoos that you really love to be a part of an Alt Style feature. If you would like your tattoo featured then please email me at rebeliciousmag@gmail.com with the...

Final Major Project Proposal
Been slacking on the ol’ blogging front lately due to being so busy!
Here is the current version of the proposal for my Final Major Project. I say current as we’re apparently going to be ‘beefing up’ our proposals over the next two weeks before the Easter break.
My whole plan is to create Rebelicious Magazine Issue 2. As a magazine requires a lot of dedicated time,...

Designspiration: Magazines →
Thanks to wonders of Twitter, and people retweeting things they find, I came across this website. It’s a lot like FFFFound, but I find this a lot easier to use as everything is split up into different categories. Obviously I went straight for the magazine category!

Final Major Project Proposal Idea
Having become caught up in the whole magazine design field, for my final major project I plan on creating a second issue of Rebelicious. The first issue was created last summer with a fashion journalism student from London College of Fashion, and it was done for Her final major project. The whole process went really well and the final magazine turned out really good. A lot of people liked it, and...

Catching Up
Soo, the deadlines for ITC and SVR have come and gone, and to say I’m relieved would probably be an understatement!!
Right now I’m currently doing my internship at Rock Sound Magazine for the Live Projects brief (mega smiley face!) and it’s going really really well. I wish I was there everyday to be honest. I’ve finished helping out on my first issue, and it’s...

“Magazine covers are generally designed to attract attention (sometimes called ’shelf presence’) and to reflect the style of the publication. With this in mind, there are some basic rules that make a good starting point. The use of a single, eye-catching image, for example, is a good place to start —and you will notice that these are the covers that once again proved successful. The golden rule of...

My PDF that I created for the ITC presentations earlier this week. This is some of the most important research I’ve collected so far for my project. Now I’ve just got to start/continue writing the actual report, doing more research as I go on.

Industry Responses
These are the responses I’ve collected so far from people that work within the magazine industry about the importance of magazine cover design.

Music Magazine Readers Needed!!
If you read or browse through music magazines either regularly or just on a random basis, you would really be helping me out if you complete this little survey of mine as part of my research for a uni project!!
ITC Presentations - Email from Catherine
Hello everyone, As per the ITC brief, I would like you all to prepare a 5 minute illustrated presentation of your ITC project research to date to show to the group next Monday - 8th November. The aim of the session is for you to generate feedback on each others work. I will provide a form with questions to consider in order to facilitate this during the session.

Case study focus...
At the moment I’m just thinking about my report, in particular the idea of doing a case study on a music magazine. My first initial thought was to do a case study on the magazine Rock Sound, mostly because they do work placements so it would enable me to find out more about the brand for if I were to get a placement there. However I’ve been looking at other music magazines and...
Interview with Esquire Magazine!!
Got an interview tomorrow with the senior designer at Esquire Magazine! Not really sure what to expect from it, but hopefully I manage to get a placement there. At the moment I’m just reading through the current issue of the mag, and even though it’s a mag for men, it is actually a pretty decent read!!

Report Introduction...
An investigation into the importance of music magazine cover design
“Magazine covers are more than just ‘Page One’. They’re the public face of the publication. They are its image and its main marketing tool. They aim to catch the eye of the passer-by and to tantalize the onlooker with the promise of fascinating content within.” Andrew Losowsky – We Love Magazines (pg 34)
